Bio

Héctor Mad is a techno DJ and producer driven by a deep passion for drum machines, vinyl, and so-nic experimentation. His sets blend Birmingham and Detroit influences with electro, EBM, and indus-trial sounds. A student of the club culture, he’s known for his technical precision and emotional inten-sity behind the decks. He runs the label Matterwave and continues refining his sound through per-formance and studio work. For Héctor, every session is a physical, mental, and emotional journey.

Since his teenage years, Héctor Mad has been fascinated by synthetic timbres and the pulse of drum machines. Hidden from his father—a true ‘80s melomaniac—he would secretly play vinyl records that opened gateways to unknown sonic worlds. His epiphany came at the age of 17, when he stepped through the doors of Vol-tereta: that techno club revealed a universe he couldn’t yet name, but one that would define his path.

Two discoveries shaped his vision: a cassette of the legendary Jeff Mills – Liquid Room, Tokyo set, and his early immersion in the Soma scene, where he learned what it meant to truly live the club cultu-re. His hunger to understand that cosmos led him to invest in turntables, vinyl, and a home studio; since then, he has never stopped refining his craft.

His first gig took place in a warehouse in the Urtinsa industrial district: nerves on edge, eyes lo-cked on the decks, and the firm belief that just two decent mixes weren’t enough. That fiery self-criticism became the driving force behind a career now defined by a constant pursuit of technical ex-cellence and creative freedom.

In the booth, Héctor crafts dynamic, intense, and far-from-linear sets, blending influences from Birmingham and Detroit with touches of electro, EBM, and industrial. Labels like Mord, Ka-zerne, Analogue, and Nachtstrom Schallplatten are staples in his bag, while more conceptual im-prints like Downwards and Axis have never left his shelf.

Artists like Jeff Mills, Surgeon, Drexciya, and Aphex Twin laid the foundation of his sound. To-day, however, his inspiration flows from his surroundings: the places he visits, and the people he meets. A lover of technical drawing and painting, he often visits exhibitions and performing arts events, channeling that visual sensitivity onto the dance floor. Each set is, for him, a sensory experi-ment: to provoke reactions, defy convention, and achieve total connection with the crowd.

Aware that magic demands preparation, he arrives early to events to observe the atmosphere, the acoustics, and the narrative left by previous DJs. Technique and intuition coexist without hierar-chy: one is sharpened daily; the other emerges at the right moment. From that balance comes what Héctor describes as “a physical, mental, and emotional journey—an ordered chaos, like the storm that’s about to break.”

He currently runs the Matterwave label—while sketching out a second imprint—and continues to refine his sound in the studio. He dreams of sharing the booth with Jeff Mills, but above all, of conti-nuing to fuel that visceral connection that, night after night, turns memories into energy for the next challenge. His journey shows that technological and artistic evolution only make sense when they translate into experiences that endure in the collective memory.
